Community Guidelines

Short version: Coetu is for making real friends in small groups. Be yourself, be kind, respect people's beliefs and boundaries, keep everyone safe, and tell us when something is wrong.

Last updated: October 8, 2026

1. Why we have these

Coetu brings people together in small groups around activities they enjoy. That only works when everyone feels welcome and safe. These guidelines apply everywhere Coetu is: our website, the waitlist, our emails and social media pages, and, once we open, our groups, events, App and chats. Breaking them can lead to removal from Coetu (section 6).

These guidelines sit alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

2. Be real

  • Be yourself: use your own name and details, and follow the eligibility rules in our Terms.
  • One account each: no fake accounts, and no pretending to be someone else.
  • Be honest: do not spread false information about other members, venues or Coetu.

3. Be kind and respectful

  • Friendship first: Coetu is for friendship, not dating. Do not pursue anyone romantically who has not shown the same interest, and take "no" as a complete answer.
  • Respect beliefs and values: we group people by what matters to them. Never mock, pressure or argue with someone over their faith, values or way of life.
  • No bullying or abuse: no insults, intimidation, humiliation or targeting anyone.
  • No hate: no attacks or slurs based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other part of who someone is.
  • No sexual harassment: no unwanted sexual comments, advances, touching or images, in person or in messages.

Example: after an outing, a member keeps messaging another member who has not replied, and sends comments about their looks. That is harassment, and we act on it.

4. Keep everyone safe

  • Meet as planned: meet your group at the planned venue and time, and do not bring people who were not invited.
  • Respect the venue: follow the venue's rules and staff.
  • Drink responsibly: follow the law, and never pressure anyone to drink.
  • You can always leave: no one has to stay, share contact details or join anything they are not comfortable with.
  • Protect privacy: do not share other members' personal details, photos, messages or anything said in the group without their permission.
  • No violence or threats: no threats, violence, stalking or following someone after an outing. People with a known history of violence or sexual misconduct may be removed.

In an emergency, call 911 first.

5. Things that are never allowed

  • Selling, spam and scams: no sales pitches, recruiting, fundraising, investment offers, asking members for money, or mass messages.
  • Drugs and illegal goods: no selling, offering or using illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal or regulated goods.
  • Sexual content: no explicit or sexual content, and no offering or asking for sexual services.
  • Violent or graphic content: no graphic images of injury or violence.
  • Dangerous groups: no promoting or recruiting for violent or extremist organizations.
  • Self-harm: no content that encourages self-harm or eating disorders. Sharing your own experiences with care is welcome. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) in the United States.
  • Anything illegal: no unlawful activity of any kind.

Zero tolerance for child exploitation

Any content or behavior that sexualizes, exploits or endangers children is strictly forbidden. We remove anyone involved straight away, keep the evidence securely, and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the police. To report a concern, email safety@coetuapp.com.

6. Reporting and what happens next

6.1 How to report

Email safety@coetuapp.com with what happened, when and where, and who was involved (first names are enough). Please report real safety or conduct problems, not simple disagreements. We never tell the other person who reported them.

6.2 What we do

The Coetu team reads every report and replies as soon as we can, with the most serious reports first. Depending on what happened, we may give a warning, remove someone from a group, suspend them, or remove them from Coetu for good, and we contact the police when someone may be in danger or a crime may have happened.

6.3 Asking us to review a decision

If we take action against you and you think we got it wrong, email safety@coetuapp.com within 30 days and tell us why. A different team member reviews it. For serious safety reasons, a removal may be final.

7. Changes and contact

We may update these guidelines as Coetu grows. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top. Questions: safety@coetuapp.com.
